The Golden Crest Records Years

Like other young balladeers from the 1950's and 1960's such as Little Anthony & the Imperials, the Mystics, the Passions, and the Tokens, the Precisions began as five teenagers singing on the colorful street corners of Brooklyn, NY to a contract with a record label.

The Precisions hit the national record charts in 1962 with their haunting version of the classic composition by George and Ira Gershwin, 'Someone to Watch Over Me". This release was backed with "Cleopatra", a catchy novelty song inspired by the motion picture starring Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra and Richard Burton as Marc Antony.

The Precisions were signed to Golden Crest Records in 1961. Golden Crest Records was a progressive independent record label based in Long Island, NY. Originally established as a record label for classical music fans, Golden Crest Records evolved into an incubator of young talent and resonated with an exciting new sound from the streets of urban America. This new sound became known as Doo Wop - a unique music genre.

The original Precision's line-up included Robert Brooks, Alfred Boulding, Jr., David Butler, Michael Cancillo and Michael Pellegrino. While under contract to Golden Crest Records, the group toured with popular artists of the period and appeared at the Brooklyn and New Paramount Theaters, and the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem. The orignal Precisions line-up disbanded in the mid-60's as the Doo Wop music scene was suddenly - and permanently upended by the "British Invasion."
